Housley sees the artistic process as a combination of building and dismantling, building on the foundations of the past whilst also seeking to reinvent it. For Three Bananas he has played on the traditions of the 'still life'. The subtle hand drawn grey lines hint at the table on which the bananas are resting, and enhance the hand drawn positives that were created for this edition.

Paul Housley was born in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester in 1964, he now lives and works in London. He has MA Painting, Royal College of Art, London, 1995 and BA Fine Art (hons), Sheffield City Polytechnic, South Yorkshire, 1986.
Housley often adopts and combines the iconic styles of past masters like Velazquez, Picasso, and Rembrandt. His intensely gestural paintings are not ironic appropriations, but self-deprecating, troubled homages to art history's most celebrated geniuses. Modest in scale, his expressive paintings often feature un-heroic subjects like toy figurines, cats, and stuffed animals. Housley has shown widely. He has had solo exhibitions at ZieherSmith and Sunday Gallery in New York, Belmacz in London, Monte Clark Gallery in Vancouver and Bianca arte Contemporanea in Palermo. He has shown at Transition numerous times including in Unplanned Memories in 2014.
