M. Bartlett, 2015, artist’s blood on watercolour paper, 30x21cm
'My signature for this watercolour is a reference to my painting practice where I use many sources including artists, artworks, gallery spaces, the art world and myself.
'I have looked at the many signatures I have used to sign my work over the years, always on the back and from those I have chosen the simplest ‘autograph’ as my central theme. I pricked my finger to check my blood sugar levels and with this signed my name through a silkscreen.
'The painting references myself and artists who have used body fluids in their work such as Marc Quinn, Tracey Emin and many more.
'The ‘autograph’ becomes my biography'
