James Roseveare's work Surface Below, Surface Above is the embodiment of his ongoing investigation into the nature of landscape and the traces humanity leaves behind on both micro and macro levels. The work references memorials, anthropology, geology, and archeology whilst encouraging the viewer to reflect upon the quandary between things times-gone and things times-now. Some of the fragments that make up the work are carefully placed, whilst others are left to chance. Seeds embedded within may germinate and sprout new life as other materials decay over time exposing the detritus of humanity from the meaningful to the mundane.
